Book Review of ‘How to Eat Right and Live Longer’

I came across a book by Dr. Cass Ingram titled ‘How to Eat Right and Live Longer’, published by Knowledge House Publishers copyright 2005. It contains interesting nutritional information that to me as a practicing Chemical Engineer in the Philippines and Singapore makes a lot of sense. I liked it because it also explains the underlying bio-chemical reaction. I agree on his position that the body if deficient of essential minerals like Potassium and Manganese would primarily cause high blood pressure or hypertension . By not eating right, the body does not receive the balanced and good nutrition which shortens your life.

These are the ten tips that the book recommends:

1. Do not fret that in the past you did not eat right. Just make the commitment to do it from now
on.
2. Do not be afraid of eating out. Just eat around the unhealthy foods like foods fried with
refined liquid vegetable oils.
3. Do not over heat when cooking foods especially meat or vegetables.
4. Do not be concerned on eating all raw foods. Just eat some raw fruits and vegetables each day.
5. Do not worry about eating too much meat. Just avoid smoked, processed or preserved meat such as
bacon, sausage (foods which contains nitrates, food dyes, and flavorings.
6. As much as possible eat food in its original natural state such as fresh fruits instead of
canned.
7. Eat a variety of healthy, chemical free foods.
8. Do be too much concerned about fat consumption. Just avoid synthetic fats such as margarine,
shortening, etc.
9. Eat as much as possible natural organic foods.
10.Avoid the white stuff such as white flour, rice and sugar such as found in white bread,
crackers, cookies and other similar processed foods.
